“Thought for Food:” A Community Presentation Series

Nourish Nantucket is pleased to announce its first series entitled “Thought for Food.” There will be two presentations during the summer months: Monday, July 28 and Monday, September 8. Each presentation will provide an overview on Nourish Nantucket’s work to end food insecurity as well as a guest speaker from the food sector. The presentations will give valuable insight into the state of food insecurity on Nantucket (and its neighboring communities) and the impactful initiatives taking place to address the issue.

July 28 will feature Merrick Carreiro, Food Equity Director of Island Grown Initiative (IGI) on Martha’s Vineyard. Since 2006, Island Grown Initiative has led an innovative, collaborative effort to increase local food production, reduce food waste, promote climate-friendly farming techniques, and expand access to healthy, affordable food throughout the Martha’s Vineyard community.

September 8 will feature Alison Meares Cohen, co-Founder and the Director of the National Right to Food Community of Practice, a growing network of more than 200 advocates and community-based organizations from across the country focused on shared learning and capacity building among those advocating for the Right to Food at a local, state or regional level.

Both presentations will take place in the Nantucket Atheneum’s Great Hall from 2 – 3 PM. The event is free and open to the public. To RSVP, please visit:
