Summer Student Meals Program Launches on Nantucket, Providing Daily Breakfast and Lunch for Local Youth
Nourish Nantucket is proud to announce the successful launch of its Summer Student Meals Program, ensuring Nantucket students have consistent access to nutritious meals throughout the summer months.
Nourish is providing over 100 free, daily breakfast and lunch to local students at the Community Food Hub at 19 Boynton Lane, helping to bridge the gap for families when school is out of session. Nourish has partnered with the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club to provide more than 35 meals each day to Club campers, expanding its reach and impact across the island.
A strong emphasis has been placed on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and organic proteins. The program is partnering with Bartlett’s Farm and Fog Town Farm to incorporate seasonal vegetables into daily lunches, supporting local agriculture while delivering healthy, high-quality meals to students. Kate Ortega, Dietetics Masters Student and Nourish nutritionist, has sourced organic meats and dairy, and clean ingredients across the menu. To further enhance meal offerings, Wadah Good Cause Water Co. is supplying canned water to accompany lunches, ensuring students stay hydrated throughout the day.
“This program is about more than just meals, it’s about supporting our community,” said Meg Browers, Executive Director at Nourish Nantucket. “By working with the Nantucket Public Schools, the Boys and Girls Club, as well as local farms, community partners, and generous supporters, we’re able to nourish Nantucket’s youth all summer long.”
The Community Food Hub invites the public to support its ongoing efforts through its Friends for Food Annual Fundraiser on July 19 and a Live Music Event at Cisco Brewers featuring Mihali on July 24; information about both events can be found on our website and social media. Both events will help sustain programs like the Summer Student Meals Program and ensure continued access to nutritious food for Nantucket residents via the Nourish Nantucket Food Fund – which supports other local food access partners and programs.
