The Nantucket Food Pantry, a program through Nantucket Food Fuel & Rental Assistance (NFFRA), serves hundreds of clients on a weekly basis. The Food Pantry provides pantry staples, fresh produce, and prepared meals on a year-round basis.
Pip & Anchor, a local market, assembles a weekly box packed with fresh, locally sourced produce for families in need. Clients have the option of pick up or delivery. Currently, the program feeds 80 families with more than 100 families on the waitlist.
Organized through NFFRA and St. Paul’s Church, a team of volunteers prepares homemade, nutritious meals for pick up at the Food Pantry. Each hot meal is portioned for a family of two and is available to any client when picking up groceries. This program is especially helpful for people who do not have access to a kitchen.
The Warming Place provides daytime and overnight shelter and warm, nutritious meals for those experiencing homelessness. From November 1 – April 30, they provide shelter and offer support services seven days per week. They serve lunch year round on Mondays from 12 – 1 PM at the Summer Street Church.
Fresh Connect is a prepaid debit card used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at Stop & Shop. A preset amount is loaded onto the card each month for year-round families on-island. The program is currently on pause and awaiting funding to resume as soon as possible.
Meals on Wheels of Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands (ESCCI) delivers meals to residents aged 60 and older. Delivered Monday through Friday, the program offers a nutritionally balanced meal to clients who would otherwise be unable to prepare meals for themselves
The Nantucket Family Resource Center provides free family support services, guidance, and referral services to individuals, children and families. Working with a number of community partners, they provide invaluable knowledge to educate and improve family wellbeing. FRC provides walk-in access to the Food First platform.
Sustainable Nantucket has created individual home gardening kits pre-planted with the help of Nantucket Public School students. Delivered to homes around the island, the boxes allow families direct access to freshly grown produce and a unique opportunity to cultivate their own herbs and vegetables.
Health Imperatives is a nonprofit organization that administers several health services on Nantucket, including the federal nutrition program Women Infants and Children (WIC). WIC provides free healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referrals to pregnant women, postpartum women, children under 5 and infants who qualify.
Another component of WIC, mothers receive personalized breastfeeding support from qualified staff. Acting as mentors, staff provide a safe, comforting space for mothers to ask questions. Staff also provide access to birth-related resources.
Our House is an after-school program offered Monday-Friday to Nantucket High School students. They serve a family-style dinner 3 nights per week to all participants. Created as a safe space, Our House helps students fulfill their potential through mentorship and relationship building with their peers.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is a federal nutrition program that provides residents with a monthly disbursement to purchase food at grocery stores, farmer’s markets, and CSA farm shares (where accepted). The program also provides free nutrition education and resources.
