$1 Million Gift to Nourish Nantucket Fuels Food Access on Nantucket
Nourish Nantucket is proud to announce a transformational $1 million anonymous gift to fund immediate food access for island residents. This remarkable donation will directly support getting fresh, healthy food into the hands of hundreds of Nantucketers, helping move individuals and families off waitlists and into life-sustaining programs and supporting existing food security programs.
“This is a life-changing gift,” said Meg Browers, Director of Development and Operations at Nourish Nantucket. “This donation is specifically to help feed more people now – getting food to those who need it most, without delay. We’re beyond grateful for this extraordinary act of generosity and the trust it represents in our mission.”
The gift arrives just weeks after the launch of Nourish Nantucket’s $3 million campaign for 2025, which began in July. The campaign is focused on expanding access to fresh food, scaling innovative food programs, and reducing the number of island residents going without food, as well as securing funding for a permanent food security building for Nantucket, including a space for the Nantucket Food Pantry. The $1M will be dispersed over 4 years with the greatest impact occurring in 2025. Nourish Nantucket has requested proposals from its food security network partners, including the Nantucket Food Pantry, and expects to award multiple grants of $50,000+ within the next week.
“While this gift is a huge leap forward, the need is still great,” Nourish Nantucket Advisory Chair Bruce Percelay added. “We hope it inspires others to give boldly. Every dollar helps us reach more people – as no one on Nantucket should have to wait for healthy food.”
Tricia Vanacore, a Nourish Nantucket board member, echoed this, saying, “This gift is proof that people are interested in taking care of each other. Food insecurity affects more people here than many realize. We have a chance – and a responsibility – to show up for our neighbors.”
