1st Annual Friends for Food Brings Awareness to Food Insecurity
The 1st Annual Friends for Food was an overwhelming success! A day that began with rain showers and clouds turned to bright sunshine just in time for the afternoon’s festivities.
Brooke Mohr, President of the Board, kicked off the afternoon with welcome remarks followed by Bruce Percelay, Chair of the Advisory Council, and Meg Browers, Director of Development and Operations. Chris Sleeper, owner/operator of Pip & Anchor, culminated with an inspired paddle raise to benefit the Nantucket food program sector.
Nourish Nantucket is so grateful to its wonderful host committee who helped bring awareness to the little-known problem of food insecurity on Nantucket. A sincere thank you to: Beth Terrana, Jennifer Sleeper, Josette Ramirez, Kate Lubin, Kelley Laurel, Kim Crew, Rebecca Becker, Steven Segal, and Tricia and Mark Vanacore.
Besides the NRP board and advisory council, who put in countless hours behind the scenes, there are many individuals and sponsors to thank as well: Misha & Robert Currie, Cliffside staff, Cisco Brewers, Nantucket Catering Company, Scott Osif, David Silva, Poets Corner Press, and Nantucket Party Rentals.
Without the support of this compassionate and benevolent community, food insecurity would only continue to increase. Your donations benefit the food sector as a whole and ensure that vital programs, such as the Nantucket Food Pantry and Pip’s Send It Box program, continue to serve its residents. Thank you!
