Feed Nantucket X Nourish Nantucket X Great Point Properties
A new community-driven initiative, Feed Nantucket, is making it easier than ever for visitors and seasonal residents to donate leftover vacation groceries to support local families. Founded by summer resident Grant Ramirez, Feed Nantucket collects unopened, non-perishable food and other grocery items from rental properties and vacation homes at the end of their stays – redirecting food that might otherwise go to waste.
With the support of Nourish Nantucket, a local nonprofit focused on food security and community nourishment, the program delivers all collected donations directly to the Nantucket Food Pantry.
“Every summer we see perfectly good food go to waste as visitors leave the island,” said Meg Browers, Director at Nourish Nantucket. “We are thrilled to support Grant and Feed Nantucket in this effort. His motivation and commitment to helping our neighbors through this simple, effective solution is inspiring.”
Anne Dawson, an advisor to Nourish Nantucket, echoed the enthusiasm for the program. “This initiative is such a natural fit for Nantucket,” Dawson said. “It’s a win-win: reducing waste and ensuring that every can of food, every bag of pasta, every grocery item can go toward feeding someone in our community.”
Through partnerships with rental agencies like Great Point Properties, homeowners, and local organizations, Feed Nantucket offers scheduled pick-ups, making it easy for vacationers and property managers to participate. All donated items – unopened, unexpired, and safe for consumption – go straight to the Nantucket Food Pantry to help meet the growing demand for food assistance on the island.
“Our goal is simple,” said Ramirez. “Less waste, more good.”
